William Fleming soccer player, Nathaniel Scere, balances a ball on his head before the team's game against undefeated Patrick Henry High School. The William Byrd High School soccer team is made up of mostly African and South American players, many of whom are not native speakers of English. To a large extent, soccer is what keeps them together. It helps them learn English and it gives them a familiar outlet in an unfamiliar land.
